Great Grandparents Tour

Zimra and her parents recently embarked on a cross-country trip to visit her great-grandparents. Below is the video of the second leg of the journey. More pictures are coming soon....

Dan and Lydia took Zymra to meet her great-grandparents in October. The tour started in Boca Raton but I was only able to met up with them in Princeton for the final stop. Besides Zymra's great-grandparents (my parents), her grandparents (Michele and I), her Aunt Rachel and Uncle Michael came to visit. Our friends Jeff and Patty Kaplan and neighbors Jan and Lois Safer's make cameo appearances.

Packing on the Pounds!

Man, I have been seriously hungry the past week or so and I may be heading towards a growth spurt! In two weeks, I've gained a pound and a half! I am now at 9 lbs 8 oz! Check out my awesome cheeks and how tall I'm getting in some of my recent pictures. This also means that I'm sleeping a little longer at night - more time for me to dream and for my parents to approach functionality!

So much love

Dear wonderful community of family and friends,

My parents are taking a nap right now, so I'm taking this chance to send you an email.  I have been so blessed by the wonderful showering of love that I've received.  It really makes a girl feel good coming into the world with such support and caring.  I really don't have the words to thank you enough.

I wonder if I could be so bold as to make one more small request of you.  My daddy has been telling me all about his adventures, especially his recent trip to Senegal in west Africa.  He told me about all the little kids there that he hopes I'll get to meet one day.  To get me ready, my daddy got me a very pretty dress from Senegal which you can see attached to this email.

The people in Senegal that my daddy met are really wonderful and live in a community filled with love, like ours.  Unfortunately, they don't have all of the resources that we are blessed to have.  Fortunately, there are organizations like AJWS supporting this community and others like it to be self-reliant, self-determining, and self-susatinable.

Would you help this community and others like them around the world?  (You'd also be helping my daddy who promised to raise funds for them, too.)  Even a small donation, like $5, would be really helpful! All you have to do is go here:

If you want to see pictures from my daddy's trip, you can go here:

Thank you so much and Shana Tova!
Love,
Zimra Pearl Medwin

PS - Thanks again for going to http://action.ajws.org/goto/dan.medwin and helping make the world a better place for me and others!
PPS - Gotta go now and pretend to be asleep!

New Zimra Videos: Episodes 3 & 4

Suddenly, Zimra's eyes are open more than they are closed. She started looking at people and tracking their movement. Her arms and legs are still moving on their own, but her eyes are looking right at you. Things change quickly when your age doubles in one week.

Remember to keep watching after the credits.

Although not quite the formal portraits that a studio might take, this series of photos certainly captures the challenge of photographing a two week old with her new parents. As usual there is a bonus photo after the credits.

About this video:
"How many adults does it take to give a one week old baby a bath? Apparently, at least three plus one photographer to capture all the action.

It's a girl!!!!

Okay, so we knew it was going to be a girl, but she's more incredible than we could have imagined!

We are so excited to announce the birth of Baby Girl Medwin!

She weighs in at 7 lbs. and 8 oz. and is 20.5 inches long, and she's adorable!

Mommy, baby, & Daddy are doing well and spending quality time getting to know each other at UCLA Medical Center and we hope to return home soon.

The naming ceremony will take place at Stephen S. Wise Temple in LA at10:30am on this Sunday.

Love,
Lydia, Dan, & Baby Girl Medwin

PS - you can find periodic updates and pics of BGM on her blog (set up by her Mommy):

Impending Fatherhood - a poem

It looks fun,
but turbulent.
Parents beckon.
I will join soon,

Our "new" rocker

This rocker just arrived from Memphis on a cross-country journey. It was the rocker that Lydia's mother used to rock her when she was a baby!

Gifts and generosity

Dear Loved Ones,

We are so fortunate to have all of our materials needs met and we are as prepared as we can be for Baby Girl Medwin's arrival. We are also so very thankful for all the love and support we have gotten and continue to get. We were also thinking, rather than getting more gifts for her, wouldn't it be amazing to share this love with the world and, in turn, help make the world a little brighter?

If you haven't heard, I recently journeyed to Senegal, Africa where I worked closely with a local village. I met a wonderful community there, one which is also filled with love, but not necessarily all of the material wealth that we enjoy. They are actively working to better their lives, but can use all the help they can get. You can see pictures of my journey here: http://picasaweb.google.com/dan.medwin/SenegalWithAJWS#

So, we are hoping that you can show your love for Baby Girl Medwin by making a donation in her honor to American Jewish World Service (AJWS), an organization dedicated to working with grassroots NGOs to help this particular village and many like them. You can do so through my personal fundraising page: http://action.ajws.org/goto/dan.medwin

Thank you again for all of the overflowing love!! Together, we can harness this love and send it out into the world so others can grow from it, as well.

Love,
Dan & Lydia

Once again, here's the site where we'd love to receive donations in Baby Girl Medwin's honor:http://action.ajws.org/goto/dan.medwin

Another 38 week Photo - Enjoy!

Here's a better one of the belly - with a little "tude" on the side!

--
Rabbi Lydia Bloom Medwin

38 weeks and 3 days!! Almost cooked!

It was so great to see Tiffany for dinner tonight! We are all glad that she was able to drive over from the far away land of the City of Commerce (yes, there is actually a city with that name outside of LA - well, at least you know what you are getting into if you move there!). Sending so much love, Tiff! To all you other folks, come visit! Maybe you'll get on the blog too and become famous! More pictures of Baby Girl soon to come - hopefully, of the actual baby sooner than later!

36 Week Self-Portrait

Baby girl is really cooking now!! Her momma has consistant reminders of her presence, and her belly is never perfectly round but instead has lumps sticking out in various directions at any given time. Mommy and Daddy are all ready for her arrival, having finished up with her room, installed the new car seat base, and registered at the hospital. We are going to our midwife once a week nowadays and are patiently (or not so patiently) awaiting her arrival. She is expected to be a little late (most first births are) but we will take her whenever she's ready!

Today marks Lydia's first official day of work, which she spent off site at The Grove Community Church at a workshop learning about a great pre-marital counseling assessment tool. It will be very helpful over the years as she sees couples about to take the plunge (and what a wonderful plunge it is). Dan is hard at work healing from his wisdom teeth removal surgery (day by day he is feeling better and swelling less) and engaging with all kinds of matters involving his CCAR responsibilities (which he continues to enjoy). All in all, BGM is headed into a pretty wonderful world!!

So, it turns out that we have developed a blue and green safari type
theme for BGM's room. Hopefully, she'll be an animal- and outdoor-
lover like her parents! Thanks again so much to all who have sent
their love and good wishes and sweet things. Baby Girl's parents feel
so blessed and grateful to be a part of the different communities that
touch our lives!
